Maria-Jose Martinez Sanchez

The veteran is a clay court expert, so is merely making up the numbers at Eastbourne as she prepares for SW19.

Failed to win a singles match at Eastbourne 2009, and is becoming a doubles expert after breaking into the world's top five at doubles at the turn of 2010.

Martinez Sanchez had not had a terrific 2010 until a surprise title win in Italy, when the Spanish ace collected her title singles title of her career with the 2010 Rome Open.

On the Italian clay, Martinez Sanchez registered impressive victories over future 2010 French Open champion Francesca Schiavone, 2009 Eastbourne champion Caroline Wozniacki and then Jelena Janokic in the title clincher.

Reached first round at 2010 French Open.

Chances of winning | Unlikely to progress beyond the opening round. Has ability on clay but not fast courts, although is an interesting player to watch as she has an array of quality shots and can up the tempo with the very best players on the WTA Tour.
