Sam Stosur

The 2010 French Open runner-up a huge kick serve which the Aussie uses to set up and control the point.

Since a first round shock exit at 2010 Dubai, Sam Stosur has been on a remarkable run that has seen her chalk up impressive victories with a quarter-final place her worse progress.

At 2010 Indian Wells was beaten by Jelena Janovic at the semi-finals. Stosur was beaten in the next event - the Miami Sony Ericsson Open - by eventual champion Kim Clijsters in the quarter-finals.

Won the 2010 Charleston tournament in the United States but then had to settle for runner-up at Stuttgart against Belgian Justine Henin, before an emphatic showing at Roland Garros.

With confidence at a high, veteran Stosur is a player to avoid for others at Devonshire Park. Although she fell in the second round at 2009 Eastbourne to eventual champion Caroline Wozniacki, at 2008 Eastbourne the Aussie romped through to the semi-finals and is always a danger on fast surfaces.

Reached final at 2010 French Open.

Chances of winning | Unlikely to win but has the ability and serve to trouble others. Could reach the final, although that would be beyond realistic expectations. A dangerous opponent for those who are not grass court experts, as her kick serve will cause major problems for others.
