Na Li
The
Chinese ace is impressive on grass, and scythed through the opposition
at the AEGON Classic in Birmingham for the past two years - despite
finishing runner-up to little-known Slovakia Magdalena Rybarikova in 2009. Had a terrific run in 2009 grass court season, after losing in Birmingham Li was halted by injury during her second round contest at Eastbourne.
Li had to concede defeat against defending Eastbourne champion Agniezska Radwanska after beating Brit Elena Baltacha in the opening round.
But Li recovered in time to play Wimbledon, but was once again a victim of Polish ace Radwanska following a third round defeat at SW19.
Li also had an impressive grass court run at Wimbledon 2006, romping to the quarter-finals before bowing out to Belgian Kim Clijsters.
After winning one out of first three matches in Australiasia at the start of 2010, Li then surprised the rest of the WTA Tour with a run to the semi-finals of the 2010 Australian Open. Li Na saw off Venus Williams in the quarter-finals but was beaten in two tiebreak sets by Serena Williams.
Reached quarter-finals at the Madrid Masters and Stuttgart, followed by a run to the semi-finals of the 2010 Warsaw Open before being ousted by eventual champion Francesca Schiavone in the third round of the 2010 French Open.
Top seed at the 2010 AEGON Classic in Birmingham, Li romped to the final for a second successive year and saw off Russian Maria Sharapova in the title-decider.
Reached third round at 2010 French Open.
Chances of winning | Loves to play on fast surfaces, and fancies her chances on grass against anyone. On her day she is absolutely unbeatable, but may be too tired from her fantastic run at Birmingham to scamper through the draw as she should. A shock exit awaits, leaving the Chinese ace time to rest before Wimbledon 2010.
